About This Position

Internship Description: Assist with planning, organizing, and attending community events. Represent the organization and engage with the public at events. Help with daily operational tasks of the nonprofit. Provide basic financial and administrative support. Collaborate with staff on outreach, communications, and special projects. Internship Objectives: Gain hands-on experience in nonprofit operations and event planning. Develop public speaking and community engagement skills. Learn about nonprofit financial processes and record-keeping. Strengthen organizational, communication, and teamwork abilities. Contribute to the mission of supporting youth and families through meaningful work.

Helpful Skills & Coursework

Desired Skills / Coursework: Strong communication and interpersonal skills Public speaking or community engagement experience (preferred but not required) Interest in nonprofit work, youth development, or social services Organizational and time management skills Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace Familiarity with QuickBooks or other financial software Ability to work independently and collaboratively Coursework in nonprofit management, social work, public health, communications, business, or related fields Experience or coursework in event planning or marketing is a plus Basic understanding of financial processes or administrative support (a bonus, not required)

Compass is a not for profit business. Our mission is to provide compassionate services to individuals and families in need through counseling, education and financial benefits management. Our vision is a community strengthened by resilient individuals and stable families. Founded in 1919, Compass is the oldest nonprofit in Greenville. Outside of our referring sources, the general public does not know the incredible work provided by Compass of Carolina. Core services: Individual and Family Counseling, Victims of Violence Groups, Batters/Offender Groups, Veteran’s Services, and Representative Payee Services. The Representative Payee Department pays bills and manages finances for people on Social Security Disability or are Veterans who have been unable to effectively pay their bills. We provide therapy to children, teens, and adults. Our groups are in English and Spanish. Of note, Compass of Carolina is the only charity in the county that provides free or sliding scale therapy with licensed clinicians. Our programs are: • Family Violence Intervention Programs o Domestic violence victims support groups. o Separate Male and Female Batterer psychoeducational groups o Anger Management groups New groups Preparing to start o Second Chance o Children who witness domestic violence o Me, You, and Us (Teen Dating Violence/Healthy Teens) • Individual Counseling – Children, Adolescents and Adults • Veteran’s Services watch our Veteran’s Video o Veteran and First Responder support groups o Case management • Representative Payee Services for Veteran's and those on Social Security.
